Centenary UMC in Smithfield has an opening for a Youth Pastor (grades 6-12). This position currently requires that the individual will, among other things, develop, plan and conduct UMYF meetings on Sunday nights from 5:30-7. This time includes a fellowship meal coordinated by the youth pastor with the help of member parents who take turns providing the meal.
Youth pastor will also plan and lead summer youth mission trip, winter Ski trip, annual Pilgrimage event, youth group fundraisers (these are at your discretion, but have been in the past), coordinate Sunday school teachers for the youth, participate in the two morning worship services, and lead a Wednesday night devotional from 6:30 to 7:00. The latter is for the months of September thru the week before Easter.
Other assignments may come from the Senior Pastor, but this is essentially a Wednesday evening and Sunday position. We value an individual who cares about the youth, is willing to listen and develop healthy relationships that are nurturing and pastoral in nature. This is a very strong youth group and we would like someone who has the vision to make it even more so.
The current salary is around $20,000.
Interested individuals may contact John Parrish, Staff-Parish Chair, at 919-280-6180, or Reverend William Holliday, Senior Pastor, at 252-230-9271.
