Capital District is supporting the repairs for the home of Ms. Betty Hunt. Ms. Betty is 75 years old and has been alone for 11 years. She is getting around with the help of a walker most days. She is Lumbee and is a lifelong member of Branch Street UMC.
Ms. Betty did have some Insurance money so she is better off than a lot of her neighbors. She gathered enough money from family to sign a covenant with us to rebuild her house. I expect we will need to raise approximately $5,000 to complete her home. She lives with her daughter and son-in-law near Maxton, approximately 25 miles from her home in Lumberton. Her’s was the first house I cleaned out, so I have early pictures of her home immediately after the flood and pictures of the house today. She really wants to go home and back to Branch Street UMC.
We’ll need to do the floors, sheetrock, finish and paint that. There is a small amount of floor joist replacements to be done. There is some ceiling damage and wood to be trimmed around the windows and doors.
The Capital District can do this house. It is entirely doable.
