Mission u is an opportunity to study current issues impacting society based on recent mission study topics. If you have never attended this event, you have been missing out on one of the most enriching experiences available in the NC Conference.
Mission u is a three-day event at Methodist University that offers three different mission studies, one of which is a repeat study from the previous year. The main purpose of Mission u is to certify study leaders to teach these studies in the districts and in local churches, but all are welcome to come and learn and enjoy the fellowship. To be certified, study leaders must be in class for a minimum of 8 hours. Teachers may receive CEU credit if requested. Although Mission u is offered through United Methodist Women, it is offered to all women and men, clergy and laity alike, as continuing education.
The Study Leaders are prepared, your Mission u planning committee is ready, and each district has begun to prepare for your arrival to Mission u 2017! Every local UMW member is invited to join us for exciting classes, engaging study leaders, and time to share with UMW friends from across the North Carolina Conference in a mission study or two at Mission u.
Topics and study leaders for Mission u 2017 are:
- Spiritual Growth: “Living in Covenant Community”—Lisa Bachman, Roxie Floyd, and Brenda Brown
- Geographical: “Missionary Conferences in the United States”—Rev. Bill Haddock, Patricia Pemberton, and Daisy Dye
- Issue Study: “Climate Justice”—Brenda Connelly
The study books can be ordered online at the UMW Mission Resources website at http://www.umwmissionresources.org/t/categories/educational-resources. However, the Conference Secretary of Program Resources, Annette Wright, will have the study books available for purchase at Mission u.
There is a spot at Mission u 2017 for you!
The two new mission study classes, Living in Covenant Community and Missionary Conferences in the United States, will be presented in a one-day setting that will begin at8:00 A.M. and end at 5:00 P.M. on both Friday and Saturday. These two new mission study classes will also be presented in a split-class arrangement, which will begin the afternoon of one day and conclude the morning of the following day.
The repeat study, Climate Justice, will be presented in a one-day setting only on Friday from8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M
Local UMW members–especially Local and District E&I Coordinators, please note these dates on your calendars today: July 27 – 29, 2017. This is the dates we will be holding the 2017 Mission u at Methodist University in Fayetteville. The classes are exciting and loaded with material of high interest. Please help us generate interest and a gathering of new faces at Mission u this year!
There will be an opportunity to spend some time on Friday afternoon to engage in letter writing and visitation at the NC Veteran’s Nursing Home again this year. A quiet area for personal prayer and reflection time will be unveiled. Scheduled time is set on the daily schedule for the purchase of books on the Reading List. Your mission study book can be purchased right inside each of the classrooms at a cost of $10 if you have not secured a book prior to the event.
There will be no changes in the costs of Mission u 2017 since last year. Although we have made a request to the Lay Servant Ministries leadership, we have not been given a formal acceptance to use our mission studies for Lay Servant Ministries renewal credits as of this publication. We will continue to make this request and will be able to provide their final decision for you by Mission u in July.
