The Lord has told you what is good and what the Lord requires of you: to do justice, embrace faithful love, and walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
I have always loved John Wesley’s treatment of this text. Wesley celebrated what Micah proclaimed; our spiritual ancestor celebrated that God offers to work with us and through us.
Wesley called this cooperation our working in “synchronicity with God”, that is, humanity’s work or cooperation with God. God’s incredible generosity moves Jesus to work in us and through us. God puts confidence in us – amazing news.
To know that God works in me and through me is a great challenge. That understanding motivates me to self-examination. That understanding moves me to celebrate the “God-sightings” we can often have when we look around and see the Lord at work in us and in others. Made in God’s image, we are equipped for every good work.
God has equipped us to work in the Kingdom. Each of us, lay and clergy, has that call. What a wonderful thing to know that God is in sync with us through Jesus. Amazing grace.
I will pray this week that you see and understand anew how God is at work in and with you.
Grace and peace,
