Our Church has grown (again)! On Tuesday, February 18, 2020, Church on Morgan: A United Methodist Congregation, chartered as a local church. Church on Morgan (CoM) began as an outgrowth of Edenton Street Church. The Chartering Conference was also the time when Edenton Street Church held a called charge conference and offered to sell the property that CoM has been using as a home to them at a mutually agreed price; CoM naturally accepted.
All this conferencing took place in the Edenton Street Church sanctuary where we celebrated what God has surely been doing through Edenton Street Church: a congregation that has birthed other churches in the past and is plainly doing so today. Though plainly the population around Edenton Street Church and downtown Raleigh has morphed through the decades I have to note that this history of openness to the Spirit to “do a new thing,” doesn’t just happen. Edenton Street Church’s lay and clergy leaders have been willing to do bold and new things. They have chosen to step way outside what always seemed obvious or prudent; they have certainly been willing to risk. Well done brothers and sisters! May God continue to bless you!
Church on Morgan is truly reaching new people in new ways. Their hospitality is intentional and they are making a huge difference in the life of their community. Again: this is God at work in us, friends! CoM chooses to reach out and to be a transformative agent where they are now literally planted. They too take risks. Well done brothers and sisters! May God continue to bless you!
At the current moment, I think God certainly asks us to look at how the Spirit blows through our Church. We can easily get up in other frustrations, BUT, look at how God provides!
God is alive and well in us; we as a connected people are alive in that power too.
Thanks be to God!!
Rejoicing in the Spirit,
