I have been a member of First UMC – Wilson all my life, through Baptism, Confirmation, Sunday School, and Worship. My Mom and Dad made sure of that. My wife, Debbie, experienced the same at Winstead UMC, the church where we were married in 1971. After marriage, we gradually fell away from attending church on a regular basis, except on the big Holy Days of Christmas and Easter. We were a young couple, trying to build a family, a career, and manage a household. Life was good. We worked and played very hard. But we knew something was missing. We needed to be in church. We made the choice to start back attending church in 1980. Along with regular church attendance, Debbie chose Bible Study Fellowship to grow her relationship with God. I did the same plus I loved to sing so I chose to join the chancel choir. It was through the choir that God really began speaking to me. I didn’t read music (still can’t very well) so my focus was on the lyrics. God chose to reveal Himself to me through the lyric of song. Debbie & I attended the Walk to Emmaus in 1992 and it was there that we learned the importance of Christian Action. God called me into a music ministry and by my saying yes, He has allowed me to lead 60 plus weekend retreats as music leader in drawing men closer to Christ. It was through the Walk to Emmaus experience that I chose to accept Jesus as Lord of My Life. It was there that I chose to accept His call. It was there that I fell in Love with Worship! By our choosing to accept Jesus and His calling, Our Lives and Our Commitment to serve Him in Growing God’s Kingdom was forever changed.
Whether it’s Bible Study, Teaching Sunday School, Choir, Church Council, Youth, United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM), or LaEstrella, God has a place for us to learn, grow, or lead. There are many ways to Grow God’s Kingdom. The Choice is your’s.
“Life is held together by choices. One after the other, all shapes and sizes, and every path you take leads to another choice and some choices can change everything because life just keeps on unfolding. It won’t wait around for you and if you sit still, it will pass you by altogether.” Nicholas Sparks
In reviewing your Choices, your relationship with our Lord, Choose to serve him with all your Heart, Mind, Soul, Prayers, and Witness. Choose to support our Church financially with your Gifts and Talents in Growing God’s Kingdom. It is in Giving that We receive Blessings!
Someone once said “The world will ask you who you are, and if you do not know, the world will tell you.” God’s Word says “But you are a Chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)
Choose this day whom you will serve…..”as for me and my household, We will serve the Lord”. – Joshua 24:15b
