As part of your own Lenten observances and personal disciplines, consider the practice of Sabbath-keeping!
For the season of Lent, I invite you to partner with 2-3 other clergy for a weekly 3-5 minute phone conversation based in prayerful support of one another toward honoring the Sabbath. Perhaps you already know some friends and colleagues that you would like to encourage in this way; if you prefer, you can be placed in a circle of sabbath prayer. The six-week covenant is meant to help us encourage and support one another toward faithful Sabbath practices during Lent.
Here’s how it will work: your group of 3-4 clergy colleagues will covenant to pray with one another once a week in support of ministry and Sabbath. Most calls are 3-5 minutes in length. A circle will ensure that everyone is placing and receiving one call each week, for a total of 10 minutes per week investment. If a phone call is not convenient, you can text a prayer! It’s that simple.
If you’d like to be part of a Sabbath Circle, please contact me (Claire Clyburn) at
919-704-6539 or email@example.com. I’ll organize circles, communicate details with each person, and check in with you periodically through the six weeks to answer any questions. Sabbath calls are designed to be mutual in support, encouragement, and prayer.
