Annual Conference 2017 is scheduled as a weekend conference. The gathering will convene Friday morning, June 16 and concludes mid-day on Sunday, June 18.
We will meet at the Greenville Convention Center. Bishop Ward explained that the decision to move to a weekend format is to make service as a lay member of Annual Conference “more accessible” for those who work during the week. “We hope this will increase the number of younger professionals who can be a part of Annual Conference.” In addition the decision was also made to help part-time Local Pastors who have employment elsewhere during the week.
Bishop Ward also indicated that resources are being developed to help educate churches about Annual Conference and to help churches make use of the conference’s network of certified Lay Speakers to preach in local churches on June 18 while the Annual Conference clergy and lay members are concluding the business of the meeting and for the Ordering of Ministry service on Sunday morning.
There is to be one lay person to equate with each clergy person in the NC Conference. The Capital District will be selecting four young persons under 30 years of old with at least one young person between the ages of 12-17 and we will be selecting an additional 27 at-large lay members to serve at this years annual conference.
If you would like to nominate someone, please first check with that person to make sure they would be interested and willing to serve. We will also accept self-nominations from those who feel led to serve in this way. Nominations are due no later than February 15, 2017.
